The SEO Benefits of Press Releases

Search engine optimized press releases are still relatively new in the field of SEO (during some research I found an article from 2004 claiming they were the new “secret back door to top search engine ranking”), but they are incredibly beneficial to an SEO campaign.

But why?

Some of the most frequently asked questions I get from clients are “Why does my company need to do press releases? How will press releases benefit my SEO campaign?”

Part of the answer is in the anatomy of an optimized press release. A properly optimized press release will include your top keywords as well as links to your website.

Backlinks:

Once the optimized press release is distributed, it gets picked up on various sites and channels including news search engines such as Google news and Yahoo! news. Every time another website picks up the press release, it reproduces the release along with all of your keywords and links. This has the effect of generating widespread backlinks (links back to your site).

These backlinks are one of the factors Google uses for determining a website’s search engine ranking. Google looks at how many backlinks you have, and where they’re coming from, so add in the fact that most of the backlinks are coming from news websites which have very high page ranks, and you have a good amount of quality backlinks that will increase the page rank and link popularity of your website.

Increased Keyword Rankings and Visibility:

News stories on the web are considered more time sensitive than regular web pages, so when your press release is distributed, it will be linked very quickly, giving you early visibility in news sites, news searches and standard search engines. Many news web sites also archive stories which can help to deliver long term link value, rankings and visibility.

In addition, online news search queries are generally much more targeted than standard web searches. In other words, people searching for news related to your industry are more likely to search for the terms that are used in your press release, which gives you a better chance at increasing the ranking of your website for popular and competitive search terms.

Credibility and Increased Traffic:

Last but not least, well written content will always add credibility to your website. The more information you show that you know, the more trustworthy you become. When your press releases start appearing in Google news and Yahoo! news for your keywords, potential customers searching for your product or business will see that you are a credible source of information in your industry and that you can be trusted. Those with Google alerts for your keywords will automatically receive your press release in their inbox, which will generate interest and relevant traffic to your site as well.

Bottom Line:

So bottom line, “Why does my company need to do press releases?” Because search engine optimized press releases are one of the quickest and easiest ways to start generating more backlinks, visibility and traffic for your website, and are a beneficial addition to any SEO campaign, no matter what your industry.

Acid Reflux and Looking Younger!

Many people suffer daily from the effects of acid reflux, to one degree or another. Unfortunately, the constant strain of this condition on the body can lead to premature aging.

The reflux of stomach gas and fluids during the night, even on a modest level, inhibit proper sleep patterns. It is a known fact that sleep is the most important factor affecting the aging process. If you do not get enough quality sleep at the r.e.m. level, you face each day with low energy, which can be described as a form of chronic fatigue. This syndrome will eventually drag you down and make you feel and look older than you should. It may even shorten your life. Many people are not even aware that they suffer from this condition.

Acid reflux or gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) occurs when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) relaxes and allows gas and fluids from the stomach to move upward into the esophagus. The LES is a ringed muscle at the bottom of the esophagus. It opens in order to allow food to enter the stomach, and then closes in order to keep the digestive fluids where they belong. It is when this muscle is too relaxed or damaged, that the contents of the stomach can escape up into the esophagus thereby causing acid reflux.

The medical community would have us to believe that drugs are the only answer to the problem of gerd. Of course this is not true. Antacids are, at best, a temporary fix and are loaded with harmful ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. PPI drugs (proton pump inhibitors) like Nexium and Prilosec should only be used for eight weeks, at most. It says so right on the label. Furthermore, these drugs only mask and hide the symptoms and they have hundreds of harmful side effects.

The acid reflux condition can be the result of poor eating habits or even the aging process itself. We all know that certain foods can trigger indigestion; tomato sauce, raw garlic and onions, chocolate, coffee and alcohol. The ingestion of these foods can make you acidic in nature, resulting in acid reflux. Yet most of us can’t resist one or more of these items on a daily basis. Besides eliminating \”trigger\” foods from our diets, there are many natural herbs and supplements that can be helpful in staving off this malady.

Chronic indigestion can also be caused by a lack of hydrochloric acid. Some people produce insufficient amounts of stomach acid as they grow older. Besides the proper digestion of food, hydrochloric acid is necessary to keep harmful bacteria, which are found in the digestive track, in check. Without this defense, infections can develop which make the acid reflux condition even worse. This particular condition can be improved with hydrochloric acid supplements, or even ingesting small amounts of apple cider vinegar. Although these conditions are different in nature, they both cause acid reflux and can result in premature aging.

Other things that should be considered in dealing with this condition are:

  • Smoking cessation (Smoking creates an acidic body)
  • Loosing weight
  • Eating small portions of food throughout the day
  • Chewing food well and eating slowly
  • Eating at least three hours before retiring

There are many subtle changes in lifestyle which can remove the threat of the acid reflux condition. By eliminating this unnecessary and harmful strain on the body, one can live a more healthy life. Getting better quality sleep will increase your chances of retaining life-force, which means living a longer and more youthful existence.

To Reduce Stress, Just Change Your Perspective

Life is a necklace with various events that have been strung together in a series. In itself a particular event in life does not have specific negative to positive connotations and most events are fairly neutral in themselves. It is the mindset of the individual that is viewing the event that makes a specific event positive or negative.

Take for example, a simple event like ‘rain’. For an indoor person who likes to sit in his portico enjoying a hot cup of coffee, nothing could be better. However, the same event can be fairly negative and spoil all plans for someone who has planned an extensive shopping trip with a friend.

If a simple event that is fairly neutral can be perceived as positive and negative depending upon who is actually thinking of the event, consider the enormity of the complexity when it comes to events that have social implications.

For a father who excelled in basketball, a son who takes no interest in sports whatsoever is a situation that can cause a fair amount of tension. However, the same situation may not perturb the mother at all if she does not have specific pre-conceived notions about what she wants her son to be.

It is fairly clear by these examples that events in themselves are not positive or negative but it is the manner in which we perceive that that makes then stressful. And therefore, it is fairly obvious that all that we need to do to reduce situations that cause stress is to change the manner in which we perceive events.

We need to shed our biases, expectations, prejudices and subjectivity and try and view events from a completely objective stance. There is also a need to avoid being judgmental about the various events that take place and the people who are responsible for those events.

However, executing such a suggestion is easier said than done. The fact of the matter is that our opinions on various situations are formed based on our parents, society and the various events that take place in our life. We form these opinions over time and then find it only too easy to overlay them onto other people and events.

To be able to actually view events and therefore life in an objective manner you should be able to put yourself in the shoes of the other person and then view the actions that have been taken. Try and appreciate that your perspective may not and actually is not the ‘right’ perspective. In fact in most cases, there is no right and wrong and there is no negative or positive situation in the first place.

If you sit and ponder for a while, you will realize that the significance of life is not as large as we often think it to be. How does it matter if your son is not interested in sports? He may excel in some other sphere that he is interested in. What significance does it have on your life per se if you are unable to go shopping on a specific day that you had decided? Why is it so important that you wear a specific dress that you planned to at the prom? Honestly, no situation is worth bothering yourself about. If something has been done, sitting and brooding about it is not likely to change what has already happened. Also, it is a wise man that can accept that there are certain situations where your hands may be tied. If you cannot change something, reflecting and sulking about it will not change things.

This does not mean that you let life pass you by. When certain events take place, assess the implications of the event, evaluate what role you can play in the future and take those actions. Thinking positively about the events and planning the next steps to take is a far better way of leading life than pouting over issues that you can do nothing about!

    Why Vacations Just Don’t Work

When you’re exhausted from working, overwhelmed, burnt-out, little visions come visiting. Visions of distant beaches, cabin hide-aways, foreign adventures.

    Vacation-land.

And so, off you go, on vacation. And, when you come back, by noon on Monday you’re as exhausted as you were when you left. Did you take the wrong vacation? Or is there something wrong with vacations?

Vacations only solve one of two problems

If you are crispy from working in your business, then you probably have two problems going on.

The first problem: physical and mental fatigue.

You’ve probably worked long hours, doing too much, just plumb worn out.

For this, you need rest. Sitting around, doing nothing, taking naps, lounging.

What does resting do? Resting empties you out. When you’re exhausted, it feels as if you are empty, but the truth is you are full.

You may be empty of juice, but that’s because you’ve been doing so much that your being has become full of all the doing-ness. Rest isn’t recharging your batteries- it’s dumping out all the stuff you’ve been piling in there, like to-do lists, worries and responsibilities, and unresolved commitments.

But, when you come back from vacation, it’s all waiting for you as soon as you enter your office. It only takes a few hours before you’ve filled your heart with the same lists, worries, and commitments.

Suddenly, you’re full again. And… exhausted to be carrying it all, even though you’ve been back from vacation for exactly 180 minutes. Because you haven’t handled the second problem.

The second problem: Lack of Connection

What keeps you from getting filled up again? By being full already.

Nature loves a vacuum, and fills it up. To avoid filling it up with all the stuff waiting for you in the office, you need to fill your heart with something else. With Connection.

Your heart’s connection to Source has been blocked by all that stuff. If you fill yourself up with spiritual practices, with Remembrance, then all that stuff can come pounding at you, but the door is already closed. \”Sorry, you’ll have to take the next elevator.\”

Ahhh… finally, true peace. Even though you’re hundreds of miles from the beach.

Live in your heart’s world, not your stuff’s world.

In Sufism, the word for heart is ‘qalb’ which means ‘to turn.’ This is because the heart is always turning between the world of Source and the material world.

Your job isn’t to get everything done in the material world so you can finally rest. Your job is to keep your heart turned towards Source as much as possible.

This keeps you living in your heart’s world, not in your stuff’s world.

But does that mean I don’t get any work done?

Sure you’ll get work done. In fact, you’ll get more of the right work done, and less of the wrong work done. Because you won’t be digging yourself out of a hole, instead you’ll have a clear perspective.

So how do you access this magical happy heart space that protects you from overwhelm? And, does this mean no more vacations? I think you’ll want to keep reading:

    Keys to Spiritual Retreat

  • Is your vacation a running away, or running towards?

Sometimes a vacation is just trying to ‘get away from it all.’ Other times it’s because you want to take an adventure and go somewhere you haven’t been before.

If you are just trying to ‘get away from it all,’ then I’m guessing you are dealing with the two problems I discussed above. Try creating a mini-vacation where you take off two days in a row to do absolutely nothing, even if it’s around your house, or a weekend get-away.

This will relieve your exhaustion, and give you a sense spaciousness. Then you can save your funds, and your time, for adventure vacations that really take you somewhere you want to go.
  • Take on a fill-you-up spiritual practice.

For what I’ve been discussing here, I recommend taking on a spiritual practice that connects you and fills you up with the Divine presence. I say this because some spiritual practices are meant to be emptying practices, which are great.

But the filling up, such as I teach with Remembrance, is key so that there is no void that can suddenly be filled with stuff.

A key way to tell if your spiritual practice works or not is: does it have a carry-over effect into your work life? Sometimes folks have spiritual practices where they feel great sitting on the meditation cushion, but as soon as they walk in their office, bam, it’s the same as coming back from vacation.
  • Take a spiritual retreat.

There are places where you can go and be contained and guided by spiritual teachers, who will have you spending your days in spiritual practices. The carry-over effects of these kinds of retreats are amazing, and I recommend them highly.

Keys to look for? You’ll want a retreat center that has teachers available for daily check-ins, to guide you through the internal terrain of your heart. Spiritual practices can bring up a lot of old emotions, like doing a spring cleaning of your basement. I don’t recommend cleaning out either your basement, or your heart, on your own.

The best to you and your business,

Small Business Finally Finds A Friend, The Reverse Merger

Why is our nation so focused on everything large when it comes to business? Multibillion dollar financings, acquisitions and meltdowns have us transfixed like rubber neckers on a highway. Is it possible that we need to revisit the thought that bigger isn’t necessarily better?

The most recent poster child for large corporate blunders is Bear Stearns. How could people that were smart enough to create a company that as of November 30, 2006 had total assets of $350.4 billion. (Institutional Investor) allow their shareholders and 14,000 employees to lose almost everything?

And yet, according to the US Dept of Commerce, 60-80% of all new jobs are created by companies with less than 500 employees.

One group that knows this well met last week in Los Angeles. They are the entrepreneurs, investors and professionals that participate in the Reverse Merger industry. This group hailed from the US, China, India, Korea, Vietnam and more. The industries represented there were wide ranging including technology and health care companies from the US and infrastructure companies from emerging nations. Some were startups but most were established businesses in need of growth capital. What they all had in common was an interest in becoming publicly traded in the US.

In the past, these companies may have looked forward to funding and liquidity for their shareholders by going public via a traditional Initial Public Offering (IPO). Today this dream has all but evaporated with the average current IPO in the US raising over $250 million.

In addition, according to Ian Mount writing for Fortune Small Business, “A combination of Sarbanes-Oxley’s steep compliance costs, Wall Street’s neglect of small caps regardless of their performance, and heightened investor distrust has turned running a public company into a far less appealing proposition”.

Even with these issues to overcome reasons still exist to be publicly traded in the US including:

  • Utilizing public stock to acquire other companies without using cash.
  • Attracting and retaining professional management through stock options and other stock based compensation.
  • The potential to raise capital through public equity markets at higher valuations than private companies.

  • One alternative to the IPO for going public is known as a Reverse Merger. This is when a private company merges into a publicly traded company with little or no operations and is issued a majority of the shares. The management of the old public company resigns and the private company’s Board of Directors replaces the old Board. One of the biggest advantages of going public this way is that it typically takes much less time ( 4-8 weeks) and the risk of an IPO being canceled is avoided.

No industry is left out of this process. According to the Washington Post, a defense contractor, Argon ST, went public through a reverse merger and is in one of the hottest sectors of the defense industry. Other notable former reverse mergers include Turner Broadcasting and Acclaim Entertainment.

A significant drawback of the reverse merger is that unless a private financing is completed simultaneously with the merger, the formerly private company is now public and has taken on the significant costs of being public without having raised any capital.

The comparison between the health of IPO’s and Reverse Mergers for small and mid size companies speak for themselves.

According to Tim Keating of Keating Investments there were only 9 IPO’s on average per year over the last 10 years that raised under $25 million.

In 2007 alone there were 220 Reverse Mergers. 100 of these transactions included simultaneous private placements.

In the first half of 2008 only 23 IPO’s were completed including deals of all sizes. (SPAC’s and REITs omitted)

It is not only homegrown companies that are attracted to this method of becoming publicly traded in US markets. According to Robert Comment of Johns Hopkins Univ. The % of co’s going public in the US via Reverse Merger that are non US has gone from approximately 14% to 37% over the last 10 years.

Companies receiving financing using this method create primary US jobs for printing companies, mailing services, transfer agents, lawyers and accountants and their staffs, employees of our stock exchanges and the government employees that regulate them.

This does not include the employees of these now funded companies and their suppliers as they use the new capital to buy equipment, develop new products, open new markets and more.

In the past this method was largely unregulated and often abused. Thanks to thoughtful regulations developed by the SEC and the NASD in conjunction with input from industry members, the quality of the companies accessing capital through Reverse Mergers has improved steadily. Revenues for these companies went from approximately $5 million in 1997 to $16 million in 2007 according to Mr. Comment.

With the IPO market minimums continuing to grow, we are sure to see more Reverse Mergers filling the gap in the coming years.

    5 Realities About Prenuptial Agreements

Recently many articles have been appearing on the internet extolling the virtues of entering into a prenuptial or premarital agreement prior to your marriage. I offer the following reflections from my practice of law and work as a mediator to strongly counter the idea that prenuptial agreements have no “cost” and provide only benefit to a marrying couple. Both people entering into marriages should seriously consider what these realities are prior to engaging in the idea that a prenuptial agreement will be good for you and your marriage.

Reality 1: Negotiating a prenuptial agreement may irrevocably corrode your marriage and has the potential to make divorce much more likely.

The future spouse who pushes for a prenuptial agreement demonstrates a lack of faith in the other and a lack of commitment to the marriage. That prospective spouse also presumes a lack of fairness from the other in case of divorce.

There is usually an “initiator” spouse, and a “compliant” spouse. The negotiations will always be remembered as callous by the “compliant” spouse. The dynamics of the negotiations set up a bad pattern for the marriage.

Negotiating a prenuptial agreement is not romantic and can destroy a portion of the couples’ love forever. It is a harsh business negotiation, made harsher by the lawyers who must be involved, because the agreement is generally not enforceable without involvement of separate legal counsel.

Marriage is a mixture of a complicated set of laws, customs, expectations, and culturally-based understandings. A premarital agreement will upset this balance in unexpected ways and is bound to have unintended consequences.

Most lawyers representing parties in prenuptial agreements have no sensitivity to the harm they cause the couple and simply act (or pretend) as if it is purely a business deal. Marriage is not a business.

Often the initiating party (or their lawyer) says, “You can just put the premarital agreement in a drawer and forget about it.” That is not true. The premarital agreement cannot be forgotten and is presumptively legally binding as soon as it is pulled out of the drawer.

The initiator of a prenuptial agreement fails to trust and appreciate the balance of good common sense and equity embodied in state divorce laws. These laws were carefully developed during a long period of time and are designed to provide for fair solutions to all aspects of divorce, including the financial elements.

Many things, unforeseeable at the time the prenuptial agreement is signed, will likely happen during the course of a marriage. Applying these state laws at the time of divorce is more sensible than anything the parties can think of years before the divorce occurs.

If a “better” result than would be obtained by state divorce laws accrues to the party who initiated the premarital agreement, that “better” result is by definition unfair and a result of overreaching.

Reality 2: The two parties negotiating a Prenuptial Agreement do not generally have equal bargaining power, so the Agreement tends to be coercive and lacking in fair and equivalent consideration.

I have seen many cases where parties negotiate prenuptial agreements very close to the wedding and after the invitations have been sent out. This is not conducive for arm’s-length bargaining about a financial contract that may affect the next 50 years of your life.

Prenuptial agreements are generally one-sided, but are “dressed up” to pretend that there is consideration for the contract on both sides.

The financial contract at the heart of the Prenuptial Agreement involves the largest financial settlement you will ever make in your life, because it includes all property - past, present, and future; inherited, earned, and unearned - , of each of the spouses.

Even mediators can be insensitive to the power imbalance in the parties when assisting clients in negotiating a prenuptial agreement. Mediators should be very aware that the agreement proposed by “both parties” may be really the thoughts of only one and that the other party feels coerced, although does not admit it. All motivations and feelings should be exposed and discussed in the mediation prior to proceeding.

Reality 3: Prenuptial agreements are generally not appropriate for people entering into first marriages, whether or not there is a disparity in income and assets.

Marriage is an exciting joint venture. If some of the aspects of the joint venture are removed by the premarital agreement, the marriage will become weaker. An important part of the joint venture of marriage is the financial partnership. A spouse may correctly feel that some of this aspect of the marriage has been taken away if a premarital agreement is entered into decreasing the spouse’s rights.

State divorce laws can handle the issues of disparity of income and disparity of premarital assets if and when the spouses get divorced. Avoiding court at the cost of an agreement that may make it more likely that there will be marriage failure may not be a sensible trade-off.

However, prenuptial agreements can be highly useful for people entering into second marriages who have children from the first marriage. An agreement can balance a spouse’s loyalty to the new spouse and with the spouse’s concern and loyalty to the children of the first marriage.

Reality 4: A Prenuptial Agreement often damages the relationship between the two families-of-origin.

A party (or the party’s parents) may want a financial agreement prior to the marriage due to the existence of family wealth. The premarital agreement generally isolates all family property as not part of the marriage, forever. Result: the future spouse’s family feels humiliated and disrespected, and never forgets the rebuff. This is not good for the parties’ marriage, as it will result in family-of-origin conflict that will be present during the entire marriage and remembered until death.

One common fact pattern that I see often is this: the future spouse does not want to have a prenuptial agreement, but his parents insist. The prenuptial agreement is made. The wife feels her husband was unable to stand up to his parents, and loses respect for him.

The control of the marriage by one party’s family of origin disturbs the delicate balance of a marriage and makes it more likely to fail.

Reality 5: The terms of a Prenuptial Agreement are often quite unfair at the time of divorce, even though they are generally enforced by a Court.

Courts routinely enforce premarital agreements that give a spouse a fraction of what the spouse would “deserve” under state law. This proves that the deal made in the prenuptial agreement years earlier were unfair to that spouse.

Parties struggle in courts over prenuptial agreements; prenuptial agreements per se do not eliminate court battles.

Divorce laws are fair. That’s why they were developed. Trust in them (and in your good will and sense of fairness to each other) to do the right thing at the time of divorce. Do not rely on a set of financial agreements made years earlier prior to the marriage that may be totally out of sync with the real facts at the time of divorce. Trust that by foregoing the premarital agreement you have made your marriage stronger and more likely to succeed.

How to Gain Muscle with Fats

In the last two articles I wrote, I broke down the importance of proteins and carbohydrates and which of them should be eaten and which to stay away from. So now I will give you the scoop on the third and final macronutrient: fats….which many body-builders tend to try to avoid as much as possible…..and which body-builders also need in order to gain muscle naturally.

Believe it or not, fats are not evil, either. Just like with carbs, good fats are good; bad fats are bad. And too much of them - too much of anything, really - can put weight on your tummy, give you headaches, make you tired, and slow down your muscle growth. Here are just some of the functions of fat:

    1. Fats are the building blocks for cell membranes, hormones, enzymes and neurotransmitters (messages from your brain to your body that make you think, feel and move).

    2. Fats slow down food absorption so you can go longer without feeling hungry.

    3. They are needed to absorb and use the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

    4. They also help to keep us warm and cushion organs.

    5. The brain is 60% fat, and needs fat for connecting brain cells and making sure signals get through.

    6. Fats are also the most concentrated form of energy.

    7. Fat spares the B vitamin thiamine–required when using carbohydrate for energy.

    8. Fat spares protein; when fat is present, the body does not have to burn protein for fuel.

    9. Fats slow the rate at which foods leave the stomach. This means that the carbohydrate also present is not released all at once, keeping insulin and blood sugar levels even.

Now that we know fats are important, I’d like to stress the importance of saturated fats for gaining solid muscle naturally. We hear all the time that there are good fats, and there are bad fats, and that saturated fats are in the bad fat category. This is wrong, too. These puppies are vital to your health. Don’t ignore foods with saturated fats. AGAIN, DO NOT AVOID FOOD WITH SATURATED FATS.

    1. Saturated fats constitute at least 50% of all cell membranes.

    2. They play a vital role in bone health; without them, calcium cannot be effectively incorporated into the skeletal system.

    3. They protect the liver from alcohol and other toxins.

    4. They enhance the immune system.

    5. Without them, we cannot properly utilize essential fatty acids, such as the famous omega-3 that we hear about all the time.

    6. Saturated fat is the perfect food for the heart, as the fat around the heart is highly saturated.

    7. The short and medium-chain saturated fatty acids found in butter, coconut and palm oil have important anti-microbial properties. They protect us against harmful microorganisms in the digestive tract.

Then there are the cholesterol-containing foods that that tend to get a bad rap. But they, too, are necessary for muscle growth. Yeah, eat those egg yolks; do not avoid them. Cholesterol is a hard waxy substance critical to many body functions. It is made by the liver, and is involved in the production of hormones — including estrogen, testosterone, and cortisone — which help regulate metabolism.

Cholesterol is also essential for brain function and mood stability. Your muscle-building diet should include cholesterol from organic butter, avocados, high omega-3/DHA eggs (again, with the yolks), grass-fed red meat, the dark meat of free-range chicken, wild fish, nuts and seeds.

It is the hydrogenated, partially-hydrogentated, and trans-fatty acid fats that should be avoided at ALL costs, because they are the artificially processed fats and oils. The processing they undergo makes them more stable - so they can sit on the shelf for weeks or even years at a time, but this artificial processing also makes them a foreign and indigestible substance in our bodies. Just like they sit on a shelf for a long time, they sit in your body for a long time as well. You might as well eat gasoline. Refined carbs and grains, cookies, cakes, pastries, crackers, chips, chocolate, deep fried foods, margarine, and vegetable shortening all contain hydrogenated or trans fats and should be avoided for as long as you care about your body.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion on fats and their role in building a bigger, stronger, more natural body. The Bible says, \”the truth will set you free,\” and now that you know more truths about fats, I hope you feel free to enjoy more of the foods that God intended for us to eat….and to use to gain weight naturally.

How To Choose The Right Mold Testing Firm

You may be ill because of mold in your home or place of employment, your property value may fall because of mold that bleach and paint just cannot control. If you have a compromised immune system mold may even grow in you lungs or other parts of your body in the form of a systemic fungal infection. However, no requirements exist for mold inspectors nor mold remediators in most states. When choosing a mold testing firm be sure that the professional is familiar with the following.

    1) Building construction and building forensics.

Your mold problem is not in a Petri dish or lab but in a home or commercial building. Mold testing should be done by someone who has knowledge of buildings and how to inspect building and not just the mold itself. Your mold inspector should be familiar with vapor barriers, roofing, plumbing, wall structure and wall waterproofing, building pressurization and more to properly diagnose sometimes unusual building failures that have resulted in mold and moisture problems.

    2) Psychometrics.

Psychometric pertains to humidity, temperature, dew point and air and how they all influence each other. A deep understanding of the interrelations of these factors might not be important in New York, new jersey, or Florida but in Florida with it’s unique hot humid climate it is very important.

    3) Biological sciences.

Mold is a living organism many other common indoor allergens are products of biological activities in your house or office, your inspector should understand at least some basic biological and ecological science principles pertaining to microbiology or mycology (the study of mold).

    4) HVAC knowledge.

Your mold testing expert must be very familiar with heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC systems) because many mold problems are related to HVAC system malfunctions, leaks, or contamination. Contaminated return and supply plenums, and contaminated blower fans and coils are a common hiding place for mold. Properly working HVAC systems can help prevent mold, humidity, and even general indoor air quality problems from ever occurring.

    5) Sampling techniques.

Your mold inspector should be properly trained and experienced in investigating and sampling mold, and if needed other bio-allergens, and they should know how to interpret the lab results.

    6) Legally defensible reporting documenting findings and recommendations.

Will your mold testing firm leave you with simple lab results?, or a detailed legally defensible mold inspection report that your allergy doctor, insurance adjuster, and attorney will find helpful complete with digital photos and executive summary page showing a summary of the inspectors findings and conclusions? Your inspector should give you a comprehensive mold inspection report form documenting visual findings, environmental monitoring results, interpretation of lab results, inspector’s conclusions, recommendations on how to control the mold problem and more.

    7) Proper certifications.

Currently there are no requirements that a person must fulfill to call themselves a Florida mold inspector. There is no training required in the state of Florida. In fact, the term \”certified mold inspector\” is almost meaningless. There are good certification courses but there are also worthless certification training courses for mold inspectors in Florida. In fact as of 2006 few states have licenses for mold inspectors.

Be sure to verify that your mold inspector is one of the following:

  • Industrial Hygienist or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Board Certified Indoor Environmentalist
  • Board Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant

You can verify some of the above certifications at theIAQA.org or ImIaq.org web site consultant database.

Dot Biz or Dot Com-Which is Better for You?

There are more than 30 million registered web domains in the big world of internet. A bulk of these names comes from .com, .net and .org registrations. With so many registered domain names over the internet, it is becoming increasingly hard to get a decent expired domain name. A good expired domain name is a big necessity for your expired domain name business. The domain expiring name that you choose must be credible and commercial enough for your future success. A relevant and practical expired domain name will tell your prospective buyer that it makes sense to buy your domain. However, with so many extensions, which one are you buying for your customer?

Top level domains are getting scarcer day by day and those expired domain names with a .com or .biz extension are also getting fewer day by day. Though .com expired domain names are the most common names in expired domain name industry, other extension names are also becoming famous day by day. However, .com expired-domain names carry a number of benefits over a conventional .biz or .net name.

Dot com expired domain name is instantly recognizable by almost all people in the world, while a .biz or .net extension is still in the second place as far as their commercial appeal is concerned. In the current scenario, buying a .com expired domain name seems to make sense to you. Most of the famous browsers still consider .com names as the de facto standard names. For example, just type mynameisxyz into most browsers without entering www. or .com. The result is that you will end up invariably at www.mynameisxyz.com! For sometime, .com extension names will be the preferred flavor and preferred standard for all expired domain names.

Though .biz is becoming well known as a preferred domain name for a number of businesses, it may take some more time for ordinary people to accept it as a good alternative. The reasons are very obvious; .com expired domain names are perhaps the oldest domain names apart from their extended usage. The average rate of return for a .com expired domain names is much more than a .biz name; under normal circumstances, the average selling price of a .biz name could be just $30 while a .com name could be climb steeply to more than $500.

Dot com expired domain names offer you another unique advantage. It offers you a unique selection of very good to average names in a broad price range. You can pick and choose your own domain name at a price that is most suitable to you. Dot com names also offer you a number of other benefits like easy transferability and transactions with least hassles. As of now, a dot com name provides you a bright business opportunity followed by a dot biz name. However, the latest trend in internet domain registrations is witnessing a fresh scenario of people shifting over to country specific domain name extensions. It is estimated that these domain names are expected to trade for very higher prices in the future, as the demand for a dot com name comes down in a steep manner.

Birds Go Nuts for Peanut Butter

Part of the attraction at Leeds Castle is the Aviary. The Hon. Olive, Lady Baillie had a passion for birds and started to introduce her collection of exotic birds back in 1957. In 1988 the present aviary with its 48 irregularly shaped hexagon flights was opened and they have had many notable successes breeding rare birds. The Aviary is run by Laura Gardner (Curator of Birds) and her team.

Amongst the many species is a pair of beautiful Macaws. They were happily incubating two eggs when disaster struck! The nesting box fell down and the eggs were abandoned! So the eggs were put in one of the incubators and Laura’s staff set about finding supplies of suitable food for the young chicks.

They were surprised and delighted to find that The Exotic Food and Spice Company, based in Chatham, actually made pure peanut butter.

“The humble peanut has great nutritional value for birds as well as humans,” said Laura, “It has good quality protein and oils which birds need. By using it in the form of peanut butter we can feed the chicks with a syringe. Most supermarket brands have additives.

Veggie Perrin’s is the only one we have found made only from peanuts and the company is virtually on our doorstep!” Veggie Perrin’s real peanut butter is sold mainly throughout the Southeast, but has found fame as far north as Scotland. A 300g tub costs just £1.49.You can now order your Peanut Butter from www.veggieperrinsonline.co.uk

Leeds Castle and Grounds are open most of the year. To gain admission you will need to purchase a ‘Key’. This key gives you unlimited access to the castle and grounds (including the Aviary), except for a few days listed on the web-site, for a whole year! And you only pay once. Once you have visited the place you will see why they call it the most beautiful castle in the world and you will want to go back time and time again.
